There is a box on the table in the living room. What does it contain and where has it come from?

Siellä on sokeroituja appelsiinisiivuja. Näitä syötiin ennen yleisesti makeisina, mutta nykyään ne ovat kakunkoristeita. Iivari on ilmesti tuonut rasian Siirille

There are candied orange slices in the box. Orange slices were eaten in the old days as general sweets, but today they are used as cake decorations. Iivari has obviously brought the box to Siiri.

Ne ovat Siirin suurta herkkua.

They are Siiri´s great delicacy.

Virkkauksia Some crocheted items

Siiri on virkannut uuden sängynpeiton ja kaksi tyynyä. Tyynyt ovat isoäidin neliöistä tehdyt. Seinällä on kasvitauluja, jotka ovat vanhalta koululta.

Siiri has crocheted a new bedspread and two pillow cases. The patterns of the pillow cases is granny squares. There are also new pictures on the wall. They are from an old school.

Siiri tarvitsi myös lämpimän shaalin itselleen, koska sää on muuttunut kylmäksi. Aamulla oli -10 astetta pakkasta.

Siiri needed also a warm shawl for herself, because the weather has become cold. In the morning the temperature was -10 degrees Celcius.

Ilman viilentyessä on hyvä olla paljon lukemista ja suklaata.

It is good to have many books and a lot of chocolate when the weather is turning cool.

Vispipuuroa Semolina porridge

Maistuuko Sinulle juuri keitetty vispipuuro ja puolukat?

Täytyy myöntää, että vuosi vuodelta tämä herkku maistuu niin hyvältä. Nyt on juuri se aika vuodesta, jolloin puolukoita poimitaan metsästä ja puuroa keitetään, varsinkin maaseudulla.

 Do you like some freshly cooked semolina porridge with lingonberries?
I have to admit that, year after year, this delicacy tastes so good.
Now is the time of year when lingonberries are picked up from the forests, and semolina porridge is cooked, especially in rural areas.

To my foreign readers: The porridge is cooked in water with lingonberries, wheat semolina, sugar and salt. The porridge is whisked well. Both warm and cold porridge is delicious.

Kurpitsapiirakka Pumpkin pie

Syksy tekee tuloaan. Kasvimaan kurpitsat alkavat olla kypsiä ja niistä onkin jo valmistettu keittoa. Tänään Siiri halusi leipoa avustuksellani kurpitsapiirakan, sillä emme ole aikaisemmin piirakkaa kurpitsasta leiponeet.

Autumn is almost here. Pumpkins are almost ripe in the vegetable garden. We have cooked soup some day. But today Siiri wanted to bake a pumpkin pie with me, because that was new for us both.

Piirakka maistui kahvin kanssa todella herkulliselta.

The pie tasted with coffee really delicious.

Puutarhassa In the garden

Siiri ja Iivari ovat rentoutuneet tänään puutarhassa. On ollut lämmintä. 

"Maistuuko Sinulle Iivari jäätelö ja mansikat?" - kysyy Siiri

Iivari on nokosilla penkin päällä.

Siiri and Iivari have relaxed today in the garden. It has been hot weather.

"Would you Iivari like some ice cream and strawberries" - asks Siiri.

Lämpimän sään seurauksena on Punahattu puhjennut kukkaan. Kukka on istutettu Fimosta tehtyyn ruukkuun.

As a result of the warm weather is Siiri´s Echinacea purpurea  in blossom. The flower is planted in a pot made of Fimo.

Pelargonioiden ja lumihiutaleen kukat ovat myös auenneet.  Kasvit ovat samanlaisessa ruukussa.

Geraniums and snowflakes are also in bloom.

Eteisen seinässä on myös pieni pelargoniaruukku. Ruukussa kasvaa myös valkoista lumihiutaletta.

There is also a small pot of gereniums and snowflakes on the wall of the porch.

Laattojen välissä oleva sammal rehottaa sateisen kevään ja alkukesän ansiosta.

The moss between the tiles is flourishing owing to the rainy spring and early summer.

Ruukutuspöytä, osa 2 Potting table, part 2

Tein uusia kasvia Siirin ja Iivarin ruukutuspöydän ympäristöön. Seinällä on kaksi köynnöstä, joista kärhö on Bonnie Lavish -kitistä valmistettu. Toinen on tehty samettipintaisesta vihermateriaalista. Ostopaikka Dolores.

I made some new plants for Siiri and Iivari. There are two vines on the wall. The clematis is made from Bonnie Lavish -kit. The other one is made from flocked yarn. You can buy them from Dolores.

Ennen vanhaan ei Suomessa ollut yleistä maaseudulla käyttää maassa laattoja, joten lisäsin maahan hiekkakerroksen.

I added sand on the ground, because it was not common to use tiles on the ground in the old days in the countryside in Finland.

Tein vasemmalla olevat kelta-oranssit kukat Flower Softista, jota saa Doloresista.

On the left hand there are yellow-orange flowers made from Flower Soft. It is also from Dolores.

Pöydälläkin on uutama uusi tavara.

There are some new goods on the table, too.

Pöydän alahyllä ei ole mitään uutta.

There is nothing new on the shelf of the table.
