Iivarin kiireet Iivari´s hurry

 Myös Iivari on ollut kiireinen eilen. Kurpitsat piti viedä varastoon.

Iivari has been busy yesterday, too. He had to bring the pumpkins into the cellar storage.

 Kurpitsat kasvoivat tänä vuonna hyvin. Sää oli niille suotuisa.

The pumpkins grew well this year. The warm weather was good for them.

Siirillä ja Iivarilla on varastossa paljon mehuja, hilloja ja vihanneksia.

Siiri and Iivari have a lot of juice, jams and vegetables in their cellar storage.

 Siellä on myös hedelmiä, perunoita, porkkanoita, sipuleita ja viljaa.

They have also many kinds of fruit, potatoes, carrots, onions and grain.

 Talvi voi tulla, sillä Siirillä ja Iivarilla on tarpeeksi elintarvikkeita talvea varten.

Winter can come, because Siiri and Iivari have got enough food for winter.

Linnunpönttö A bird house

Ideat voivat joskus olla hyvin yksinkertaisia. Linnunpöntönkin voi tehdä muutamassa minuutissa. Tämä syntyi kauniista viinipullonkorkista, palasta kartonkia ja coctail-tikun pätkästä. Katon maalaamiseen tarvittiin vähän akryylimaalia.

The idea can sometimes be very simple. You can make a bird house in a couple of minutes. You need a cork of wine bottle, some card board fot the roof and a coctail stick. And  acrylic paint for the roof.

Mehua ja hilloa Juice and jam

Mehun keittämiseen tarvitaan mehustin. Nyt Siirilläkin on sellainen ja hän ottanut sen heti käyttöön. Valmistumassa on sekamehua, jossa on omenaa ja aroniaa. Aroniasta tulee kaunis punainen väri ja omenasta hyvä maku.
You need a steamer to cook juice. (I don´t know the english word for this kettle).  Siiri has got that kind of kettle. She is cooking juice of apples and chokeberries. The red coulour is of chokeberries and the good taste of apples.

Omenoita hän sai naapurilta. Niitä oli niin paljon, että hän vei osan kellariin.

She got apples from her neighbour. She took the rest of the apples to the cellar.

Samalta naapurilta hän sai myös kurkkuja, tomaatteja, sipuleita ja vihreitä omenoita.

The neighbour gave her also some cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and green apples.

Siiri teki omenoista myös sosetta.

Tämä kesä on ollut erikoinen. Kevät jäi hyvin lyhyeksi ja kesä alkoi nopeasti. Osa kasveista on alkanut kukkia uudelleen ja niinpä Siiri löysi metsästä tuoreita lakkoja, jotka hän poimi hilloa varten.

Siiri cooked apple jam.

This summer has been very unique. The spring was very short and the summer began fast. Some of the plants have started to make flowers and fruits again. So it was bossible for Siiri to find some cloudberries for jam.

Iivarin piti tehdä kellariin hyllykkö hilloja ja mehuja varten. 

There wasn´t shelves enought for jams and juices. So Iivari had to build a wooden shelve.

Kellari on saanut myös täydennystä. Nyt hyllyiltä löytyy mehun lisäksi sitruunoita, appelsiineja, vihreitä ja punaisia omenoita, perunoita ja ruusukaalia.



There are some new items in the cellar.
There are now bottles of juice, lemons, oranges, green and red apples, potatoes and  Brussels sprouts on the shelves.

Sieltä löytyy myös sipuleita, tomaatteja, kurkkua, porkkanoita, perunoita ja bataattia.




There are also onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, potatoes and sweet potatoes on the shelves.

Lattialta löytyy koreissa kukkakaalia ja salaattia, puikulaperunoita ja pyöreitä perunoita, sipuleita ja herneitä.
There are cauliflowers, salad, potatoes, onions and peas in the baskets on the floor.

Kellari on täyttynyt jo aika täyteen. Ulkona on sää muuttunut jo kylmäksi. Kurpitsat pitäisi kerätä ja niille pitäisi löytyä vielä tilaa kellarista.

The cellar is quite full. The weather has become colder. The pumpkins should be collected very soon and there should be some space for the pumpkins in the cellar.

Katto on maalattu The roof has been painted

Iivari on tällä viikolla maalannut kattoa. Hän joutui tekemään sen kolmeen kertaan, koska Sirkka oli valinnut ensin väriksi ruskean ja se oli ihan väärä väri. Sitten kun sopiva väri löytyi, maalasi Iivari katon sillä kahteen kertaan.
Iivari has painted the roof this week. He had to paint tree times, because Sirkka had chosen the wrong colour. The brown colour was horrible. After having chosen the right colour Iivari painted the roof twice.

 Katto näyttää yllättävän hyvältä. Väri on vihertävä. Oven yläpuolelle Iivari lisäsi mustan lampun.
The roof looks quite good. The colour is greenish. Iivari installed also a black lamp over the door.

Rakennuksesta ei tullutkaan perinteistä maakellaria, koska Sirkka ei saanut tarpeeksi hyvää toteutusideaa. Rakennuksesta tuli enemmänkin vanhanaikaisen aitan näköinen. Rakennuksen ympärille kerättiin lähistöltä pieniä kiviä.
The project changed during the days. Originally the building was planned to be halfly inside the ground, like it is done in Finland very often.  It was too difficult to do so. The building looks like an oldfashioned storehouse. There are a lot ot small stones around the building.

Siiri keräsi muutamia kiviä ja istutti kasveja niiden sekaan.

Siiri gathered some stones and added some plants around them

 Piha näyttää viihtyisämmältä kasvien ansiosta.

The yard looks cosier owing to the plants.

Varastorakennus on nyt päältäpäin ja ympäristöltään valmis. Siirin ja Iivarin mielestä tämä oli onnistunut projekti. Mitä mieltä Sinä olet? Kommentoi!

(Jotkut varmaan miettivät, että menin pilaamaan lähes satavuotiaan kapan. En pilannut sitä, sillä katto ja etuseinä on vain painettu paikoilleen. Naulota tai liimaa ei ole käytetty. Sisustuskin on irrallinen. Eli perikunta voi myydä kapan sitten joskus, jos ovat rahan tarpeessa.)

(Some of you may have thought I spoiled the almost hundred-year-old container. No, I didn´t. I did´t use any nail or glue. The roof and front wall are loose. The inside of the container is loose, too. My children are allowed to sell the empty container after my death, if they want.)

Voi mikä työ! What a job!

Iivari ja Siiri tekivät tänään kellarin kattoa. Iivari oli katolla ja Siiri antoi hänelle tarvikkeita.

Iivari and Siiri made today the roof of cellar. Iivari was on the roof and Siiri gave him supplies.

Katto on melkein valmis levyjen osalta, mutta silti siinä on vielä työtä. Maalaaminen tehdään huomenna.
The roof is almost ready. There is still something to be done.  They are going to paint tomorrow.

Rakennustyömaalla In the building site

Viikonloppuna ovat työt kellarissa jatkuneet. Ihan ensimmäiseksi oli Iivarin rakennettava itselleen tikapuut. Sitten piti alkaa rakentaa kellarin ulkopuolta: etuseinä ja ovi.

Iivari has continued the work in the cellar during the weekend.  At first he had to build a ladder for himself.  Then he had to begin to build outside of the cellar: a missing front wall and a door.

Iivarin oli rakennettava jonkinlaiset kattorakennelmatkin. Alku näyttää tälläiseltä.

Iivari had to build some kind of supports for a roof. The beginning is like this.

 

Ovi näyttää jykevältä ja siihen pitäisi vielä löytää sopiva kahva.

The door is sturdy and Iivari should find a suitable handle for it.

Jotain uutta Something new

 

 Iivari on tehtyt verstaassaan lisää puisia vihanneslaatikoita. Nämä ovat vähän suurempia kuin hänen aikaisemmin tekemänsä laatikot.

Iivari has made some new crates. These crates are little bit bigger than the ones he made earlier.

Sitten hän teki viiden litran kapan. Mallina oli lähes 100 vuotta vanha kappa. (Kapassa on naulan jälkiä, johon bloginpitäjä on 5-vuotiaana harjoitellut naulojen hakkaamista. Naulat on poistettu jossain vaiheessa ja viimeksi siellä on säilytetty lasten puisia rakennuspalikoita.)

Then he made a wooden container of 5 litres. He had an almost 100 years old container as a model. There are some holes in the container. Blogger has nailed the container as 5-year-old child. The nails have been removed later and my children have had their playing blocks there.)

 The mini wooden container is made according to Maria´s book.

Iivari ajatteli, että laatikon voisi rakentaa ruokakellariksi. Ensin oli tehtävä tiilistä lattia. Sitten tarvittiin tietenkin iso hyllykkö.

Iivari thought he could build a cellar in the container. At first he made the floor of tiles. Then he made a big shelf.

Vanha pöytä löysi paikkansa seinustalta.

He brought an old table there, too.

 Siiri alkoi täyttää hyllyille laitettuja laatikoita hedelmillä ja vihanneksilla. Mehuakin hän ehti jossain välissä keittää ja toi pullot kellariin.
Siiri began to fill the crates with fruits and vegetables. She made some juice of berries and brought the bottles there too,

 Laatikoista löytyy myös kurkkuja, salaattia ja herneitä.

There are some cucumbers, salad and peans in the crates.

Alahyllyn isot laatikot ovat vielä tyhjänä.

 The big crates are still empty.

Siiri toi kellariin myös kaikenlaista muuta syötävää.

You can find also all kinds of seeds in the cellar.

 

Puolukatkin alkavat olla metsässä kypsyä ja niistä Siiri on tehnyt hilloa. Metsävadelmista hän keitti mehua.

Siiri has made jam of red whortleberries and cooked juice of raspberries.

 Kannellinen kimpiastia on myös kiva lisä kellarin tavaroihin. Tässä on suuri astia.

Iivari made a round wooden container. This is the big one.

Tässä kuvassa näkyy oikeassa alareunassa korkeampi ja kapeampi kimpiastia. Tässä vaiheessa kellari näyttää tältä ja se täydentyy jossain vaiheessa ainakin perunoilla, omenoilla, sipuleilla.
(Lasipurkit olen ostanut askarteluliikkeestä, mutta kaikki muu on itsetehtyä. Idean tämän kellarin tekemiseen sain täältä. Kiva idea ja sitä on ollut tähän mennessä hauska toteuttaa. Projekti jatkuu vielä ja hyllyt täydentyvät.)
There is a smaller container in this picture on the right. The cellar is missing potatoes, apples, onions etc. The project will continue.

Vihanneslaatikoita Crates of vegetables

Iivari on tänään tehnyt verstaassaan matalia vihanneslaatikoita.

Iivari has been today busy with low crates of vegetables.

"Mihinkäs minä tämän viimeisen laatikon laitan?"- Iivari ihmettelee.

"Where shall I put this last crate? " - Iivari is wondering.

Muutaman viikon päästä nämä laatikot täytetään vihanneksilla. Iivarin pitäisi tehdä vielä korkeampiakin laatikoita perunoita ja muita juureksia varten.
After some weeks these crates are filled with vegetables. Iivari is going to make some taller crates, too, for potatoes and other root vegetables.
