Sadonkorjuu Harvest

Tänä kesänä oli sää suosiollinen omenankasvattajille. Tuli hyvä ja suuri sato.

This summer was favourable for apple farmers. They got a big and good harvest.

Siiri ja Iivarikin saivat suuren määrän omenoita omenapuistaan. He ovat tehneet hilloa, mehua ja piirakkaa.

Siiri and Iivari got also a good harvest from their apple trees. They have made apple jam, juice and pie.

Kurpitsatkin kasvoivat hyvin. Niitä on syöty paistettuna ja keitettynä. 

The pumpkins had also a good growth. Siiri and Iivari have fried and cooked them.

 

 Jokaisella vuodenajalla on omat erityispiirteensä ja täytyy myöntää, että olen itse syksyihminen. Johtuu kai siitä, että olen syntynyt syksyllä.

Each season has its own features, and I must admit that I myself love autumn. I guess due to the fact that I was born in the autumn.

Vaahteranlehtikranssi on tehty oikeista vaahteranlehdistä. Tuoreet pienet lehdet on pujotettu rautalankaan. 

The maple wreath is made from real maple leaves. The fresh small leaves are threaded onto an iron wire.

Puutarhatöitä Gardening

 Keväiset puuhat ovat alkaneet Siirillä ja Iivarillakin. Iivari teki Siirille pienet puiset kärryt.

Siiri and Iivari have started gardening . Iivari made wooden pull carts for Siiri.

 

 "Iivari, nämä ovat tosi kivat" - sanoo Siiri      "Arvelinkin, että tykkäät niistä" - sanoo Iivari

"Iivari, these are very nice" - Siiri says      "I thought that you might like them" - Iivari says

Keltaiset narsissit kukkivat parhaillaan.

The yellow daffodils are in bloom.

Ruukutuspöytä tavaroinen on vanha, mutta tein siihen muutamia uusia kasveja tänä vuonna.

The botting bench and the tools are old, but I made some new plants this year.

 Orvokit ovat myös kukassa.

The violets are also in bloom.

Iivari teki myös niin tarpeellisen jakkara pöydän eteen.

There is a very necessary stool in front of the potting bench made by Iivari.

Hyvää Ystävänpäivää!

Siiri on ostanut Iivarille suklaarasian, koska Iivari on hänen paras ystävänsä. Hän rakastaa Iivaria.

Siiri has bought a chocolate box to Iivari, because Iivari is her best friend. She loves Iivari.

Sitten kun rasia on tyhjä, sinne voi laittaa vaikka pikkuleipiä. Rasia on hänen mielestään kaunis.

When the box will be empty, she can put some cookies in it. She likes the box.

Iivarillakin on jonkinlainen yllätys Siirille. Se on aamiaistarjotin.

Iivari has also some kind of surpise for Siiri. It a breakfast tray.

Let the sun shine!

 Tänään on satanut koko päivän ja tiet ovat hyvin liukkaita. Ei ole ollut viisasta mennä nyt ulos.

Siiri on leiponut tänään. Tällä kertaa hän teki tämän näköisiä leivonnaisia.

It has been raining all the day and the roads are very slippery. It is not been vice to go out now.

Siiri has done some baking today. This time she made heart shaped pastry.

Runeberginpäivä Runeberg´s day

Siivouspäivä Cleaning day

Siiri on päättänyt siivota huoneet yksi toisensa jälkeen. Olohuoneessa ehditään olla vähiten aikaa, joten hän aloitti sieltä. Siiri laittoi esille punaisen kynttelikön ja rasian vihreitä kuulia. (Tehty Marian ohjeella.)

Siiri has decided to clean the rooms one by one. She started from the living room, because it is the room, where they have not time to stay now. The red chandelier and box of marmalade candies  are now on the table. (The marmelade candies and the box is made according to Maria´s tutorial.)

Sohvalla on Joululehtiä, joita on kiva selailla. Sohvalle hän vaihtoi tyynytkin.

There are some Christmas magazines on the sofa. It is nice to read them. Siiri changed also her Christmas pillows on the sofa.

Kirjakarusellin päälle hän laittoi pienen koristekuusen. Kaktuskin on alkanut kukkia.

Iso joulukuusi kannetaan sisälle vasta lähempänä joulua. Se tulee kirjakarusellin paikalle. 

There is a little decoration tree on the book carousel. The cactus has started to bloom. (The big Christmas tree will be carried in only some days before Christmas.)

 Samanlainen pienempi kuusi on jakkaran päällä rappusten lähellä..

Joulukortteja on kiva kerätä yhteen paikkaan. Siiri ompeli niille pienen lokerikon. Puisista helmistä askarrellut tontut on tehty Marian ohjeella.

It is nice to collect Christmas cards in the same place. Siiri sewed a small  pocket for them.

Lunta, lunta, lunta Snow, snow, snow

Oleko Sinä säilyttänyt vanhoja kortteja ja joululehtiä? Kortteja löytyy varmasti jokaiselta, mutta lehtiä ei varmaankaan.

Have you stored the old greeting cards and Christmas magazines? I think that everyone has old cards, but no Christmas magazines.

Etsin Internetistä vanhojen joululehtien kansikuvia, kopion ne ja pienensin sopivaan kokoon sekä tulostin niistä Siirille lehtiä. Huomasin, että monissa lehdissä oli omistajan nimikirjaimet. Lehdet ovat olleet 50 vuotta sitten arvokkaita omistajalleen ja niitä on säilytetty monia vuosia.

I looked for on the Internet of old Christmas magazines, copied them and resized and printed them for Siiri. I noticed that there were owner´s initials written on many magazines. The magazines have been  precious to its owner 50 years ago, and they have been stored for many years.

Siirillä on myös arvokas Joulumuistot-kirja, jonka hän on saanut lapsena.

Siiri  has also a precious Christmas memories book, which she has received as a child.

Kuten huomaat on hän saanut lapsena vain muutamia lahjoja, mutta ne ovat olleet sitäkin mieluisampia.

As you can see, she has got only some gifts as achild, but they have been very pleasing.

Meille on satanut valkoinen ensilumi. Toivomme lunta lisää. Siiri rakastaa lunta. 

Hänellä on muutamia joulukoristeita, jotka hän haluaa näyttää teille nyt. Radiosta kuuluu jo joululauluja. (Radio on tehty Marian ohjeella Fimosta.)

It has snowed recently. And hopefully it will snow a lot more. Siiri loves snow. 

She has some Christmas decorations, that she wants to show you. The radio plays carols. (It is made from Fimo according to Maria´s tuto.)

    Siirillä on salaisia keskeneräisiä puuhia. Ne on tehtävä valmiiksi.

Siiri has some secrect unfinished chores to do.

Ahneet hiiret Greedy mice

Olohuoneen pöydällä on jokin rasia. Mitä siellä mahtaa olla ja mistä se tullut?

There is a box on the table in the living room. What does it contain and where has it come from?

Siellä on sokeroituja appelsiinisiivuja. Näitä syötiin ennen yleisesti makeisina, mutta nykyään ne ovat kakunkoristeita. Iivari on ilmesti tuonut rasian Siirille

There are candied orange slices in the box. Orange slices were eaten in the old days as general sweets, but today they are used as cake decorations. Iivari has obviously brought the box to Siiri.

Ne ovat Siirin suurta herkkua.

They are Siiri´s great delicacy.

Vispipuuroa Semolina porridge

Maistuuko Sinulle juuri keitetty vispipuuro ja puolukat?

Täytyy myöntää, että vuosi vuodelta tämä herkku maistuu niin hyvältä. Nyt on juuri se aika vuodesta, jolloin puolukoita poimitaan metsästä ja puuroa keitetään, varsinkin maaseudulla.

 Do you like some freshly cooked semolina porridge with lingonberries?
I have to admit that, year after year, this delicacy tastes so good.
Now is the time of year when lingonberries are picked up from the forests, and semolina porridge is cooked, especially in rural areas.

To my foreign readers: The porridge is cooked in water with lingonberries, wheat semolina, sugar and salt. The porridge is whisked well. Both warm and cold porridge is delicious.

Iivari on halunnut keittää tätä puuroa Siirille.

Iivari wanted to cook semolina porridge to Siiri.

Siiri on yllättynyt Iivarin taidoista.

Kurpitsapiirakka Pumpkin pie

Syksy tekee tuloaan. Kasvimaan kurpitsat alkavat olla kypsiä ja niistä onkin jo valmistettu keittoa. Tänään Siiri halusi leipoa avustuksellani kurpitsapiirakan, sillä emme ole aikaisemmin piirakkaa kurpitsasta leiponeet.

Autumn is almost here. Pumpkins are almost ripe in the vegetable garden. We have cooked soup some day. But today Siiri wanted to bake a pumpkin pie with me, because that was new for us both.

Piirakka maistui kahvin kanssa todella herkulliselta.

The pie tasted with coffee really delicious.

Puutarhassa In the garden

Siiri ja Iivari ovat rentoutuneet tänään puutarhassa. On ollut lämmintä. 

"Maistuuko Sinulle Iivari jäätelö ja mansikat?" - kysyy Siiri

Iivari on nokosilla penkin päällä.

Siiri and Iivari have relaxed today in the garden. It has been hot weather.

"Would you Iivari like some ice cream and strawberries" - asks Siiri.

Lämpimän sään seurauksena on Punahattu puhjennut kukkaan. Kukka on istutettu Fimosta tehtyyn ruukkuun.

As a result of the warm weather is Siiri´s Echinacea purpurea  in blossom. The flower is planted in a pot made of Fimo.

Pelargonioiden ja lumihiutaleen kukat ovat myös auenneet.  Kasvit ovat samanlaisessa ruukussa.

Geraniums and snowflakes are also in bloom.

Eteisen seinässä on myös pieni pelargoniaruukku. Ruukussa kasvaa myös valkoista lumihiutaletta.

There is also a small pot of gereniums and snowflakes on the wall of the porch.

Laattojen välissä oleva sammal rehottaa sateisen kevään ja alkukesän ansiosta.

The moss between the tiles is flourishing owing to the rainy spring and early summer.

Ruukutuspöytä, osa 1 A potting table, part 1

Siiri ja Iivari rakastavan puutarhanhoitoa. Heillä ei ole ollut mitään paikkaa, jossa voisi ruukuttaa kasveja.  Iivari löysi tontilta sopivan paikan aittarakennuksen takaa, johon hän rakensi pöydän. Hän maalasi sen vaalean vihreäksi.

Siiri and Iivari love gardening. They did not have any place where they could pot their plants. Iivari found a proper place behind their storehouse. He built a table and painted it light green

Siiri keräsi kaikenlaisia tarpeellisia tavaroita pöydälle. Tästä on hyvä alkaa tänä keväänä, vaikka sää on nytkin varsin viileä.

Siiri searched for all kinds of necessary goods on the table. This is a good start to gardening this spring although the weather is quite cool today.

Puutarhanhoidossa tarvitaan monenlaisia tavaroita, joita heillä on monivuotisen harrastuksen ansiosta aika paljon.

 Many kinds of goods are needed in gardening. They have quite many owing to their long-lasting hobby.

 En ole varma, näyttääkö tämä kuva liian vauraalta. Siiri ja Iivari elävät nimittäin 1950-luvulla. Suomessa oli tuolloin vielä aika köyhät olosuhteet.

I'm not sure, does this picture look too prosperous. Siiri and Iivari are living namely in the 1950s. At that time it was still quite poor conditions in Finland.

 Yritin saada kuviin vanhaa tunnelmaa.

                                              I tried to get pictures of old atmosphere.

Siiri on kasvattanut keittiössä muutamia taimia.

Siiri has grown  some seedlings in the kitchen.

Iivari tarvitsi esiliinan jotta hänen housunsa ja paitansa pysyvät puhtaina. Siiri ompeli sen hänelle.

Iivari needed an apron for keeping his trousers and shirt clean. Siiri had to sew it for him.

Siiri on nyt tyytyväinen ruukutuspöytäänsä. 

Siiri is now satisfied with their potting table.
